Sweet and Spicy Brie Puff Pastry Tarts
Easy puff pastry tarts filled with creamy brie, hot pepper jelly, and crispy fried onions. It’s an impressive yet simple appetizer perfect for holidays, parties, or last-minute entertaining.

These little bites disappeared fast, so I recommend making extra! I love creating different puff pastry and brie combinations, like my brie pumpkins and puff pastry bites, and these tarts are just as fun and delicious.
Ingredients Needed
- Puff Pastry– One sheet of frozen puff pastry makes 6 tarts.
- Mini Brie Bites– I used the mini brie bites from Trader Joe’s, but sliced brie works just as well.
- Hot Pepper Jelly– I love the sweet heat it adds. You can swap in your favorite jam or even hot honey.
- Fried Onions– I used leftover fried onions from Thanksgiving for crunch. Crumbled bacon or chopped nuts are great alternatives.
- Egg Wash– Brushing the edges gives the tarts a beautiful golden finish.

How to Make
Thaw the puff pastry on the counter (about 40 minutes, but check your package). Once thawed, place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Use the fold lines as a guide to slice it vertically into thirds, then horizontally to get 6 squares.

If using mini brie bites, score the top with an “X.” If using sliced brie, you can skip this step. Add a teaspoon of hot pepper jelly to the center of each square and place a brie bite on top. Spoon another teaspoon of jelly over the brie, then sprinkle with fried onions.
Score an outline around each tart about 1 inch from the edge. Whisk one egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the egg wash along the scored border.

Bake at 375°F for 20 minutes, or until the edges are golden and puffed. These brie puff pastry tarts are best enjoyed within 30 minutes of baking so the cheese stays warm and melty.
You can assemble these in advance up until the egg wash. Place the tray in the refrigerator for up to a few hours. When ready to bake, brush the tarts with the egg wash, then place them in the oven.

Whether you’re hosting a holiday gathering or need a quick appetizer for last-minute guests, these puff pastry brie tarts are a hit. They look elegant, taste incredible, and come together with just a handful of ingredients.
