Cucumber Lime Agua Fresca (Agua de Pepino con Limón)
Cucumber Lime Agua Fresca, or Agua de Pepino con Limón, is a refreshing Mexican drink made with fresh cucumbers, lime juice, sugar, and water. It’s light, crisp, and perfect served over plenty of ice on a hot day.

Agua frescas are popular throughout Mexico and are one of my favorite ways to make a refreshing drink with fresh fruit. The combination of cucumber and lime is especially refreshing, with just enough sweetness to balance the tart lime juice. Ingredient Notes
You only need a few simple ingredients for this Cucumber Lime Agua Fresca.
- Cucumbers: Peel the cucumbers, leaving a little of the skin on for color, then cut them into chunks before blending.
- Lime juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice gives the agua fresca its bright, tart flavor.
- Sugar: Start with ¼ cup and add more after blending if you prefer a sweeter drink.
- Salt: Just a small amount helps balance the sweetness and lime.
- Water: Blend half the water with the cucumbers, then stir in the remaining water after straining.

Optional Garnishes
Add cucumber slices, lime wedges, or fresh mint for serving. You can also stir 1 teaspoon of chia seeds into each glass just before serving. The chia seeds will form a gel-like coating once activated in the liquid; stir the drink again before adding ice.
Renee’s Tips and Notes
- Leave some of the cucumber skin on to give the drink a pretty light green color.
- Strain the blended cucumber mixture for a smoother agua fresca.
- Taste before adding more sugar since you can easily adjust the sweetness at the end.
- Stir or shake before serving since the drink will naturally separate as it sits.
- Add chia seeds directly to individual glasses rather than the entire pitcher.
